Welcome to Year Five!
So welcome to Year 5! Mr Browne, Mr Rosa,Mrs Harmer and Mrs Millman are here to help you thrive and achieve as you progress through your schooling. You’ll soon be year 6 then secondary school – wow!
So what do we expected from our children? We love hearing polite children who have good manners and a thirst and eagerness for learning. Please be organised with your home reading (IT IS VITAL) as well as your pencils, rulers and general stationary. Arrive at lessons ready to learn and progress!
During the autumn you will be learning how to keep yourself healthy, how to look after your heart and what to eat and what not to eat. Our humanities topic is the Amazing Aztecs, be prepared for a bit of gore – hope you are not too squeamish! In P.E. we will be swimming in our beautifully refurbished pool on – don’t forget your kit!
Every morning you will have reading, English and maths. We want you to make brilliant progress in these subjects this year and are committing every morning to these vital subject areas. Please help us to help you by reading at home and learning your tables.
Late September, we will be learning about beach safety and surfing with the RNLI. We are lucky to also have an “externally” funded trip around Poole Harbour studying the local wildlife on our doorstep.
Make sure you take advantage of the clubs and activities on offer to you after school hours. Mr Bartram will be running both football and netball clubs – we want to see lots of year 5 children participating in sports clubs at lunchtimes and after school. The choir will also be starting again soon on a Friday afterschool and Mr Waller is always looking for keen talented musicians to join our famous Talbot band. Don’t be shy about joining up, as Christmas is a magical time to make music and performing in public is a great confidence booster!
Our school Learning Power is Collaboration, so we plan to do lots of activities which help develop your skills as a team member. TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More.
So, be prepared for year 5, the more you put into a day, the more you get out of it. We really want to see you thrive and achieve!
