School Council

Our school council is made up of two children (usually one boy and one girl) from each class, so there are four council representatives from each year group, they hold regular meetings lead by Mrs Arnold.

So far this year the school council have been involved in choosing three charities that the school wishes to support, including one local, one national and one international charity.

At Talbot Primary ‘we endeavour to develop not only our children’s ability to read for information but also to foster within them a love for this lifelong skill’.

The school council have been thinking about how we can improve and further develop our reading facilities. They are currently applying for additional funding to purchase books for our new reading shelter, to enhance reading experiences throughout the school.

The council have also been investigating book corners in the classrooms to see how they can be improved. The councillors have also been conducting a questionnaire to find out children’s reading habits at home.

Last year the school council decided that our children would benefit from a new reading shelter in our school playground so they would have somewhere to sit and read protected from the elements. The school council played a crucial role in securing the funding needed for this project, organising a sponsored swim and meeting with trustees to ask for their support.
