Spellings & Vocabulary

Can your child read and correctly spell all of these words on these lists? Remember, they need to know the meaning of the words too.

Some activites about commonly confused words have also been included.

Reading

Your child has been sent home with several books to read. Additionally, the websites below have some free audio books to listen to with accompanying written books to download. They might like to read along as they listen to The Jungle Book since we will be studying rain forests later next term.

The link below will take you to some reading comprehension cards. The children can read the short text and then answer the questions. Answers can be checked against the answers provided. The texts are of varying levels of difficulty, so please find the right level which your child can read independently.

Writing

In English we are studying a modern version of A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. Your child may like to watch some of these modern versions of other stories by Shakespeare on the link below.

One of the things we are learning about is expanded noun phrases. Your child could have a go at some of the sheets below. (There are notes on them to explain expanded noun phrases for parents!)
