Welcome to Year Five!
Miss Rushton, Mrs Rayner, Mrs Hughes, Mr Taylor and Mrs Lockyer are here to help you thrive and achieve this year. This is a particularly important time for you at Talbot as we are preparing you for Year 6.
This year, we will look at a range of topics including The Ancient Maya, Global Warming, The USA, The English Civil War and The Jurassic Coast. To bring these topics to life, over the course of the year, we will visit the Winchester Science Museum, Corfe Castle and we are also planning an exciting trip through Land and Wave in the summer.
We have recently invested in lots of new books for the reading corner in each classroom and we urge you to take this opportunity to read widely and develop a love of reading. As a reward for those of you who read at least three times a week, each half term we will host a cinema experience in school. Please remember to ask your parents to sign your reading records when you read at home!
Throughout the year, our learning powers will be:
We hope you embrace all the challenges, experiences and opportunities that this fun-packed year will bring.
This term our weekly reading lessons will begin on a Friday with our weekly vocabulary lesson. Four words will be introduced to the children, with easy to understand definitions, through our text for the week. These words will be added to the webpage and sent via Marvellous Me so that you can discuss their meanings with your child, as well as encourage them to use them in their speech, in preparation for their reading and writing lessons the following week.
We hope that you will find this a useful and rewarding task as we aim to broaden their vocabulary this year!
