Celebrating Success – Talbot Boys Year 6 Football Team
You may not be aware but our Year 6 boys’ football team have been absolutely awesome this past academic year! Over the course of the season, they have played in many important matches and won so many of these. They have definitely been one of our most successful teams ever!
Mr Bartram always knew the team had potential and this was demonstrated in our early season wins, including an impressive 12-0 friendly victory! In November 2021, the team won the local Poole 7-aside finals at Cornerstone Academy, winning all three of their matches against some very competitive local teams.
From this, they qualified for the county finals which was held at Wimborne Town FC. The team won the whole tournament, beating Epiphany in the final with a result of 2-1. Thus becoming the 7-aside county champions! An incredible achievement.
As a result of this success, they qualified for the South West regional event which was held in Bristol. We came in the top two out of twenty teams, therefore qualifying for the national tournament! The first time in our history we’ve ever achieved this! Unbelievable!
The national tournament was held at Coventry City FC stadium. The top eight teams in the country (Talbot was one of them!!!) competed against each other. Although they didn’t win any of their matches, the boys competed against other high quality footballers.
Alongside their incredible 7-aside success, they also won the double (much like Liverpool!). This success was winning the 9-aside PEDSSA Championship beating Longfleet 4-3 in the final. This tournament ran throughout the year and involved one group stage and four knockout rounds. This tournament included all schools in our county.
We are so incredibly proud of the boys and we know they will be great successes on and off the pitch! They have formed a very close friendship and developed as footballers during the year. A huge well done to them and a special thanks to Mr Bartram and Mr Harper for all of their hard work and dedication!
