Spring 2
Spring 2: Weekly Timetable

What are we learning about this term?

Spring 2
Maths
In Maths this term we will continue the work we began at the end of Term 3 looking at column method for addition. We will then complete a unit focused on 2, 4 and 8 times tables and how they interlink.
English
Our literary theme this term is ‘Overcoming Adversity’ and we have 2 exciting new books which we will be looking at in our reading and writing lessons to support this. These are Cloud Tea Monkeys by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham and a wonderful non-fiction text called Africa, Amazing Africa: Country by Country by Atinuke. As well as discussing and dissecting the texts through our lessons, pupils will also be given opportunities to write in response to the texts with examples including: descriptive passages, a ‘how to’ guide, letters, non-chronological reports and their own version of one of the narratives.
Geography
This term our focus in Geography is Volcanoes and our key question is ‘How do volcanoes affect the lives of people who live near them?’ This will see pupils build on their previous knowledge of Pompeii to understand the anatomy of a volcano and what the benefits and disadvantages are of living near one. We will also be looking at case studies of some of Europe’s most famous volcanoes: Etna, Vesuvius and Stromboli.
Art
This term we are looking at ceramics with a focus on Italian Renaissance pottery. We will recap the key skills learnt in Year 2 and build on our knowledge to support us with designing and making our own Renaissance inspired pots.
PE
Year 3 PE days for this term will be Monday and Wednesday. All pupils are to wear PE kit to school on both of these days unless otherwise notified. Pupils will continue to have their regular PE sessions with Mr Bartram on a Wednesday but will be swimming on Monday. Pupils are only to bring swimming kit if their class is scheduled to swim (see timetable below).
Swim kit should include:
• Swimming costume (no bikinis)
• Towel
• Swim Cap
• A plastic bag for wet costumes
Pupils are welcome to bring goggles but these are not mandatory.
Swim caps are available through the MCAS app and can be collected from the school office.
Our Swimming timetable is below:

Spanish
This term will also see the pupils continue learning Spanish. They will continue by learning numbers and colours then will learn days of the week and the months of the year.
