Summer 2

CHANGE TO OUR PE & READING DAYS
*PE days are Monday & Wednesday
Reading books changed on Thursday
Library books changed on Friday

English (Literacy Tree)

When we return for our final Summer term we look to increase our knowledge of writing in the past tense. We, of course, have the memorable Summer event that is Sports Day to which we use as a motivational hook for applying our past tense writing to form a recount of our Sports Day.

We finish Summer 2 with a wonderful book called 'Iggy Peck Architect'. This book provides children with many opporunities to develop a love of different buildings and learn subject specific vocabulary related to them. We look to create our own towers for these buildings and use a range of adjectives, superlatives and comparatives to describe and compare structures. Children will create a fact file about different buildings that are in London, providing the reader with interesting information about these buildings.

Maths

How to Teach Kids to Tell Time: Simple Instructions

In Maths, we introduce many topics such as time and position & direction. Children learn how to tell time to the hour and half past the hour as well as looking at sequencing events in their own daily timetables. We make use of our fantastic outdoor grounds when exploring position & direction through playing a variety of games that include whole, half, quarter and three quarter turns.

Phonics (Little Wandle)

In Summer 2, we continue preparations for the Phonics Screening Check that happens week commencing 9th June. We then continue with our Summer 2 content which includes some new tricky words!

*If you are unsure on how to pronounce some of these GPCs then please ask your child's class teacher and we can support you so that you can support your child.
