Term 4 (Spring 2)
Maths
This half-term our maths units will be: Understanding and Manipulating Multiplicative Relationships and Coordinates. In Year 4 we follow the NCETM Curriculum Map. More information on this can be found here: NCETM Curriculum Map
Pupils will also undertake Mastering Number sessions five times a week with their class teacher. These sessions focus on developing fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number.
Our focus times table this half-term is the 12 times table.
Writing
Spelling
Children have daily spelling lessons focussing on a different spelling rule each week.
Reading
Year 4 read How Does a Lighthouse Work?, a non-fiction text allowing the children to explore another way of presenting facts and information in a fun and stylised manner.
Geography
Children will revisit features of a river and learn about the biggest rivers around the world. They will be looking at a local river close to Talbot. They will also learn about the water cycle.
Science
Our focus is on the classification and habitats of a variety of living things from the animal and plant kingdoms.
DT
Children will learn cooking skills in preparation for the Tudor Banquet.
Religion & Worldviews
Our R&W topic this term is Christianity with a focus on Easter. Children will aim to answer the question 'Is forgiveness always possible for Christians?'
PSHE
In PSHE Year 4 will learn about what it means to be part of a community within school and outside of school. No matter what, we want children to feel a sense of belonging and importance and to learn how they might be able to help people who feel lost or alone and show compassion.
We will also be looking at our digital footprint and how to stay safe online, ensuring we do not share personal information with anyone and that anything we post on social media can stay online forever and potentially be used in a negative way.
We also cover basic first aid and what to do in emergencies.
PE
This term our PE days are TBC. On these days, children should come to school wearing their PE kit. The topics this half-term are Netball and Tudor Dancing.
Computing
The focus this half-term is Data and Information: Data Logging. In this unit, learners will consider how and why data is collected over time. Learners will consider the senses that humans use to experience the environment and how computers can use special input devices called sensors to monitor the environment. Learners will collect data as well as access data captured over long periods of time. They will look at data points, data sets, and logging intervals. Learners will spend time using a computer to review and analyse data. Towards the end of the unit, learners will pose questions and then use data loggers to automatically collect the data needed to answer those questions.
Music
Brass First Access. The brass tuition continues for Year 4 this half-term. With our basic skills starting to become more established, we will now work on reading music and playing as an ensemble. We should ultimately be able to play the notes B, C, D, E and F. The next challenge is putting the notes together to make a tune! At the end of the term, we will be skilled enough to give a short recital to another year group.
Spanish
Welcome to school. During this half-term the children will revisit some of the core language they learnt in Year 3 (asking and answering their name, where they live, greetings, days of the week, months of the year, classroom instructions, numbers and age). The children will also be introduced to naes for rooms in a school, and nouns for classroom objects.
