Our focus times table this half-term is the 11 times table.

Writing

Spelling

Children have daily spelling lessons focussing on a different spelling rule each week.

Reading

Geography

The Smugglers topic is a local one. We will be learning all about Isaac Gulliver, who was a local smuggler. The children will visit Kinson, where Gulliver lived. They will see where his family lived as well as where he stashed his smuggling goods!

Science

Our focus is on sound and how we hear sounds. We investigate how sounds are made and how our ears work to capture and use sounds effectively.

DT

The children will be smuggling precious tea in from India so need a container to store it in. They will be investigating recycled box nets in groups and exploring how to reassemble them. They will be creating nets in order to make a cubed box, decorating it and making sure it is secure enough to steal the tea!

Religion & Worldviews

Our R&W topic this term is Humanism. Children will aim to answer the question 'What do Humanists believe?'

PSHE

This half-term, Year 4 focus on mental well-being: how to be physically and mentally fit and what we can do if we don't feel this way.  This also includes dental hygiene and keeping medicines safe.

PE

This term our PE days are TBC. On these days, children should come to school wearing their PE kit. The topics this half-term are Tennis and Forest School.

Computing

The focus this half-term is Creating Media: Audio Production. Learners will identify the input device (microphone) and output devices (speaker or headphones) required to work with sound digitally. Learners will discuss the ownership of digital audio and the copyright implications of duplicating the work of others. In order to record audio themselves, learners will use Audacity to produce a podcast, which will include editing their work, adding multiple tracks, and opening and saving the audio files. Finally, learners will evaluate their work and give feedback to their peers.

Music

Samba Skills. The summer term links music to the geography study for this term: Brazil and the Amazon rainforest. Samba is one of the most popular music styles in Brazil. It's a rhythmic and percussive style that's often played at carnivals. Samba is also a source of national pride and is well known around the world. Year 4 will have access to Surdos, Caixas and Repiniques as well as smaller percussive instruments. Initially, we will learn the techniques to play each instrument and then learn grooves and breaks to start assembling a piece of music.

Spanish

My town, your town. During this half-term children will revisit colours and write a poem about fireworks. The children will revisit classroom commands to program their own robots! Next, they'll learn shop names in town, explore shopping in Spain, and practise asking for shop locations in robot-style voices!
